COVID-19 Reopening Plan

Dear LMP Community,
We trust that you have all had a restful and somewhat relaxing summer break considering our current situation.  As we inch closer to the start of the school year, our leadership team wanted to communicate a few things to consider before we return to school on August 10th for Lower School and August 12th for Secondary School. We have been working daily on providing a return to campus that is as safe as possible, but it will take everyone working together to accomplish this task.
At the beginning of June, we sent out a survey to help gauge where each family was with regards to eLearning or returning to campus for face to face learning based on our LMP Reopening Plan. We had 344 responses with 19% choosing eLearning and 81% choosing face to face learning.  At this time, we are still committed to offering a face to face program for students. We have rearranged rooms, reduced class sizes, rewritten our lunchroom policies, and implemented a number of other safety protocols to keep everyone as safe as possible.  In order to help us manage our return to school, we have developed our LMP Risk Analysis Matrix to help with consistency and expectations.  Our plan is to open the school year in Medium Risk to follow all current guidelines recommended by the CDC.
At this time, we are asking all parents to complete this Learning Option Survey by Wednesday, July 29th, so we can finalize our plans for classroom spacing and better prepare for the needs of our eLearning and face to face learners. We understand your needs may change as the year goes on, and we can make adjustments as needed. However, we have to know what to expect the first week of school so we can plan accordingly.
If you plan to send your child(ren) to LMP for face to face learning, these are things to consider before returning to campus:
  • Please do your part to protect all members of our community by reducing travel and exposure to large groups 14 days prior to returning to campus.  We are asking for all families who select face to face learning to begin quarantining by Monday, July 27th, to minimize exposure to COVID-19 before we return to campus.
  • All faculty, students, and staff are required to disclose a positive case of COVID-19 throughout the school year.  If you test positive for COVID-19 prior to or during the school year,  you are required to contact Frankie Delgado at (407) 805-0095 ext. 222 or  There are specific guidelines we must follow through our  COVID-19 Reentry Protocol.
  • Face coverings are required. It is important that your child(ren) find a comfortable mask that fits properly and begin to wear their mask or a similar type beginning July 27th when leaving home. Homemade face coverings/masks are permitted (all masks/face coverings must be school appropriate and not contain political statements/images or questionable language, phrases, or symbols).
  • Continue to speak to your child(ren) about the pandemic and how the school will look different when we return in August.  We are currently working on informative videos for Lower and Secondary students to better understand how the school day will work.  The more information the students have, the less anxiety they will feel.
We have decided as a school, which has been a difficult decision, to allow for different learning options to meet the needs of all students.  We are asking each family member to do their part to keep our students, faculty, and staff as safe as possible by following our expectations and guidelines.  If you are unsure about a protocol or what to do, ask someone on our leadership team for support.  Please also consider the amount of time and effort our school has put into this reopening plan.  This year will be filled with many emotions, but we are all trying to do our best for our students. Please be understanding as we navigate these difficult circumstances and know that we are all doing the best that we can.  We will continue to keep you updated on any changes we make to our plan.
Take care and have a great rest of your summer.
Kind Regards,
LMP Leadership Team

Dear Parents,

School closures due to COVID-19 have impacted 97% of students around the world and many schools, like Lake Mary Prep, made a successful transition to full distance learning. Over the last three months, we have seen many changes in the world, and with those changes, LMP has learned to adapt to those changes because of our dedicated faculty and staff. Since our shift to eLearning in March, our leadership team has been meeting daily with educational leaders from around the world to create a reopening plan that prioritizes two things:

  • The safety and health of our students, faculty, and staff
  • The desired outcomes to place LMP as a top learning destination for students, parents, and faculty

Based on feedback from a variety of sources, we have established our "current" reopening plans, which we will continue to update and alter throughout the summer based on new recommendations and guidelines established by the CDC. In order to help each family process all the new information, we will host a “Lower School COVID Hour” and a “Secondary School COVID Hour” in two weeks. We will be sending additional information about these sessions in the coming days so you can plan accordingly. The sessions will be held through Zoom, and there is no need to attend if you are comfortable with the plan as it stands today. Keep in mind, what we have today may change over the next two months, which is why we will continue to work with schools, physicians, the CDC, and our local government to ensure a safe return to LMP in August. Throughout the summer we will update our webpage with informative training videos and additional documents to prepare everyone for a safe return to campus.

After reviewing our Reopening Plan, we would like to ask all parents/guardians to complete our Reopening Survey in order to plan accordingly for the 2020-2021 school year. If you have multiple children enrolled at LMP, please complete one survey for each child. We realize we are still in June and things could get better or worse, but we still need to know where each family stands about returning to campus or eLearning. We will send the same survey out one more time in July to see if your plans have changed based on the possibility of new guidelines from the CDC.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your patience and understanding throughout this difficult time. If we continue to work together, we are certain our children will be the ones who benefit the most.
